Newcastle United will reunite with England centre-back Marc Guehi in January and are increasingly confident of agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace.
Football Insider reports that Newcastle United will try to negotiate with Crystal Palace for England centre-back Guehi again in the January transfer window or midway through the 2024-25 season.
Reports suggest that Guehi’s asking price is likely to drop in January, with Crystal Palace demanding as much as £75m last summer, as his contract at Selhurst Park draws down to the final 18 months.
Newcastle are hoping Crystal Palace will relent in January or they will have to wait until the summer of 2025, when the pressure will increase on the south London club as the 23-year-old’s contract enters the final year of his current deal.
The Magpies have previously made several offers for Guehi, Promotion Ufabet with the final figure expected to be as high as £60m, but it has not met the demands of Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish.
Crystal Palace have already planned for the loss of Guehi, signing Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg for £18m and Trevoh Chalobah on loan from Chelsea for the 2024-25 season.
However, with Lascelles, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar all having entered the final year of their respective contracts at St James’ Park, there is an acceptance that Newcastle’s central-defensive ranks will require major surgery over the course of the next 12 months. As a result, Guehi is likely to remain a major January target even if Botman and Lascelles are back in the fold.
Mitchell is planning a major overhaul of Newcastle’s recruitment operation, having criticised some of the structures and procedures he inherited when he took over as sporting director at the start of July.
